Welcoming Spring with Bell Flower Earrings

Spring has a way of making me want to create something that feels alive, something that captures that first exhale after a long winter. That's exactly what inspired the Glass Bell Flower Earrings. I wanted to make a piece that felt like a little celebration of the season, delicate and full of colour, like the first flowers pushing through after the frost.

I've been making bell flower beads for a couple of years now, and they've become one of my favourite things to create at the torch. The shape is achieved using a special pressing tool that forms the hot glass into that distinctive flared bell shape while it's still molten. I'll be honest, I tried making them freehand first, because there's something satisfying about shaping glass without any help. But the press gives me the consistency I need to make a matched pair, and once I accepted that, the whole process became much more enjoyable.

The colour in this particular pair is called streaky watermelon, a soft, translucent pink that has just enough warmth to feel feminine without being bold. I love how the light moves through it. It's one of those colours that photographs beautifully but looks even better in person, especially when it catches the light and glows.

Bell flowers come in many colours throughout the year, but pink felt right for spring. There's something about that soft blush tone that just fits the season perfectly.
