When Silver Meets Glass: The Story Behind the Teardrop Earrings
There’s a certain kind of magic that happens when silver meets glass, especially when the glass has that soft, velvety glow from being tumble etched. That’s where this design journey began.
I’d been dreaming of a longer, elegant earring that would pair beautifully with my Simply Spring bracelets—something that would echo the same fresh, clean energy, but with a bit more movement and flair. The result? My Glass & Silver Teardrop Earrings, handcrafted in a rainbow of transparent hues, each one with its own subtle charm.
In this post, I’m taking you behind the scenes—from the inspiration that sparked the design, to the reasons I fell in love with etched glass, and why the green earrings have completely stolen my heart.
Falling in Love with Etched Glass
Let me start by saying this: I love glass beads. Especially simple beads made with transparent colours layered over a white core and then etched to a soft, matte finish. There’s something about the way the light catches them—it’s not flashy, just this gentle, glowing depth that reminds me of beach glass or sea glass smoothed by years of tumbling in the tide.
At the torch, I found myself making more and more of these beads, just to explore how each transparent colour transformed with etching. The lighter the glass, the more magical the result. Before long, I had a beautiful collection of soft, glowing colours that felt fresh, clean, and totally spring-like.
The Simply Spring Connection
These beads became the foundation of my Simply Spring bracelets—a design I created to celebrate colour and simplicity. And while those bracelets quickly became customer favourites, I knew in my heart the story wasn’t done yet. There were earrings waiting to be made.

At first, I created smaller drop earrings to match the bracelets, and they were lovely—but some of you were craving something longer, something with a bit more presence. And I get it. I love wearing simple silver hoops day-to-day, but when I want to elevate a look (or just show off a great hair day), I reach for something a little more bold.
Designing the Teardrop
That’s when I started playing. I remembered a design I’d created years ago—a bead suspended in a silver frame. I loved how the silver complemented the bead colours while letting the bead shine without overwhelming it. So I revisited that idea, but this time reimagined it with my etched glass beads front and center.
I wanted these earrings to feel substantial without being heavy. The teardrop-shaped hoop offered just the right balance—elegant, airy, and structured. Instead of anchoring the bead at the bottom (which can sometimes add too much swing), I suspended it within the frame itself. It floats neatly in place, allowing for gentle movement without the extra bounce, and keeps the design light, comfortable, and full of that soft, glowing colour.
Green Glass, Glowing Bright
I made the teardrop earrings in a variety of colours—blues, purples, soft pinks, and neutrals—but the greens? Oh, they’re something else.
Green is the colour of life, of fresh starts, of May gardens just coming into bloom. The etched finish gives them this lush, velvety glow that feels almost lit from within. I honestly can’t get enough of them—and neither can a few of my customers who’ve already picked up a pair.
Here’s a peek at what I mean

See that glow? The etched version just pulls you in.
Simple, Stylish, and Easy to Wear
Each earring frame is hand-formed in sterling silver and measures just over 1¼", hanging about 2" total from a handmade ear wire. They’re lightweight, full of personality, and designed to be that just right pop of colour you can wear with anything.
Jeans and a tee? Yes.
Flowy dress and a summer evening? Definitely.

They’re stylish without trying too hard, and they make you feel just a little more put together—without weighing you down.
Want to See More?
Whether you’re team green (like me!) or drawn to a different shade, these earrings are a celebration of colour, simplicity, and thoughtful design.
